Loop around America!

Here are a few pictures from my journey!

Where do I begin? Life has been pretty busy, but I kinda like it that way.

Let me start with my past two meets. I few weekends ago, I flew up to Ashland, Ohio for the Ashland Elite. I want to thank Jud Logan for all his help putting on an amazing meet. The atmosphere was great. We had a great crowd and the weather was not to bad at all. I am not one for excuses, but I really cannot tell you what happened. My body just did not want to throw that day. On to the next...

After the Ashland meet, I made a quick pit-stop in Spokane, Washington to surprise my mom and watch her run Bloomsday. She had a smile on her face the whole time I was home.  :)  It was great to be home and see my parents, even if it was just for 2 days.

Eugene, Oregon was my final destination on my loop around America. I arrived on Monday and had a whole week of training with Lance before the Oregon Twilight. After the first few days of training, positions started to click and they started to become a feeling and not just a word in my head. The weather was awesome the whole week, sunny with a nice light wind.

That cannot be said for Friday. The day of the Oregon Twilight, the weather turned windy, cold and wet. I did everything in my power to get over the fear of slipping in the ring, but I could not get my body to understand. I threw 65.64 meters (215 feet) and won the meet.

Now, the "Old Britney" would be freaking out right now. “Where did my throw go? I need a bigger throw! What do I need to do better ?" Well, "New Britney" understands that training has be shifted a little this year, and that I do have a big throw in me, I just need to be patience and to let it happen.   :)

This week I am in Tucson for the Tucson Elite. For some reason I love this meet and my hammer loves it too! Training had been going amazingly. I'm hitting numbers that I have never hit in my life. Right now, I can pretty much say that I am happy and confident!

I look forward to what Thursday and Saturday have in store. The weather is shaping up to be amazing and there are some great throwers here to compete against!

Hope all everyone is enjoying their Summer and taking in some great track and field!

Children's Hosptial Visit!

Last Wednesday my best buddy, Kara Patterson and I headed over to Rady’s Children Hospital to hang out with some kiddos in the oncology unit. Walking into the hospital Kara and I both thought we were going to be emotional wreaks, since we were not quite sure what to expect. Each kiddo not only put a smile on my face but made me realize how strong kids can be.

The one memory that stands out the most was of this little girl. After she saw my hammer and I told her where I hold it, she grabbed the handle and started to pull it through the hallways of the hospital.  She had the biggest smile in her face and her laugh echoed through the halls.  It just about brought me to happy tears but I held it together.

Thank again to Chris at Athlete for Hope for setting this up! I still have a smile on my face and I look forward to my next trip :)
